Tanu Weds Manu Returns – And How!

I don’t laugh that easy. I mean, the joke’s gotto be TOO good to make me laugh. And I was laughing throughout the first half of Tanu Weds Manu Returns!

Its a delightful movie, pure entertainment and watching Kangana perform is pure joy. Tanu Weds Manu was ok, but the sequel is outstanding. It starts four years after the eventful wedding of Tanu and Manu Sharma. And as most marriages end up, the wife is complaining, the husband is disgruntled and they both hate each other’s guts. But it just doesn’t stop at that. It takes you through the journey that most married couples go through; rediscovering the love that they had to begin with, in an entirely different form.

Then there is Kusum Sangwan aka Datto, who comes from a typical Haryanvi background, is raw but is still an exceptional girl with her exceptional dreams. There comes a point, when you like her more than you like Tanu and you root for her to win. She has spunk and ambition and can give any high class girl a run for her money with her strong will and a ‘never give up’ attitude.

Poor Manu (Madhavan) is so confused just because Kusum looks like Tanu, that you feel for him and at a point, you find yourself confused too. And then there is Pappi ji. If he was funny in the predecessor,  he is hilarious in the sequel.

You just can’t stop laughing through this one, at least through the first half. The second half starts with 15-20 minutes of sluggish flow and preachy lectures, but catches up and keeps you glued. The end is a little predictable, but that’s a given and we forgive that.

If you want to enjoy this weekend and have some pure laughs, go and see how Tanu and Manu return to tickle us.

My Rating: 4/5
